In a much-awaited move, TE Data announced it has opened the door for companies and major organizations to apply for Arabic-language web addresses under the “Dot Masr” domain name as a first stage before opening it shortly to individuals as well.
TE Data Managing Director, Tamer Gadallah, said the move came after his company was awarded an unprecedented license to provide registration services for website address names in Arabic. He added that applicants can now fill out registration forms electronically on TE Data’s website
Gadallah explained that the new domain registration process for corporations only requires selecting the desired name under the Arabic domain and providing a copy of the applying company’s registered trademark, a copy of its business license and a letter of authorization. As soon as these requirements are satisfied, he said, registration is promptly implemented.
TE Data’s executive said he expects many large and medium-size local companies to apply to his firm for Arabic website names, expressing satisfaction with such a great pioneering accomplishment achieved by Egypt and that TE Data was contributing to that.
TE Data Managing Director Ahmed Ossama asserted that his company has all the attributes necessary for success in this new business activity since it is Egypt’s leading Internet firm owning 70% of internet capacity the country’s largest provider of Internet services for corporations and organizations by virtue of its broad base of business customers. He pointed out that the great success of TE Data over the past several years in the Latin “.com.eg” domain it currently owns is the best herald for future success in the Arabic domain as well.
He emphasized that marketing this Arabic domain is also primarily aimed at boosting the worldwide web’s Arabic content, creating a greater cyber presence for the Arabic language and enabling many more Arabic speakers with foreign language barriers to connect to the Internet.
Earlier this month, Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel attended a ceremony for signing TE Data’s license to provide registration services for Arabic domain names. It was part of launching a trial run for Dot Masr domain and to celebrate the registration of an Arabic domain name, which was the world’s first ever in non-Latin alphabet.
